Fifth Annual Recipe Showdown Awards $15,000 for Best Wisconsin Grilled Cheese

MADISON, Wis. – Spring is almost here and that means National Grilled Cheese Month is just around the corner. Beginning April 1, cheese lovers all over the country are invited to enter the Grilled Cheese Academy's Annual Recipe Showdown for a chance to strike grilled cheese gold and win $15,000 as the 2016 Grilled Cheese Champion.
 
Sponsored by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, the Grilled Cheese Recipe Showdown puts culinary skills and creativity to the ultimate test in a search for the best grilled cheese made with Wisconsin cheese. From April 1 to May 15, participants can visit GrilledCheeseAcademy.com to submit their recipes and view full contest details. Entries will be judged not only on taste, but also creativity and presentation. While there can only be one grand prize winner, over $28,500 in cash and bonus prizes will be awarded throughout the competition.
 
Looking for a little inspiration? The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board has teamed up with Chef Matt Fish, owner and executive chef of the Ohio-based gourmet grilled cheese restaurant Melt Bar & Grilled, to showcase some of his favorite recipes for grilled cheese.

  • The Smokey Russian is made with smoked turkey, fresh Napa vodka kraut, smoked Wisconsin gouda cheese and Russian dressing.
  • The Parmageddon features a potato and onion pierogi, fresh Napa vodka karat, sautéed onions and aged Wisconsin cheddar.
  • The Hot Italian has honey ham, pepperoni, salami, basil marinara, roasted garlic, banana peppers and Wisconsin provolone and romano cheese.
  • The Mushroom Melt combines garlic mushrooms with caramel port onions, wilted baby spinach and Wisconsin provolone.
