  2. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating each until blended. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in another bowl; gradually add to butter mixture. Fold in apples, walnuts and cheddar. (Batter will be stiff.)
  3. Transfer to a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in pan before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cheesemonger Tip

Do you have questions when shopping for cheese? Ask the cheesemonger! A cheesemonger specializes in the buying and selling of high-quality cheese, usually available in the specialty section of a grocery store or cheese shop. Knowledgeable and passionate, a cheesemonger is a go-to resource for cheese varieties and pairings, proper cheese storage and handling, its cooking applications and cheese brand information.

Aged cheddar is crumbly and creamy with a rich, nutty flavor that becomes increasingly sharp and complex with age. It's delicious in baked goods because the cheddar flavor remains after baking.
